Sanvic's Grenada Visitors' InformationThe three Islands of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique form an independent nation within the British Commonwealth. Grenada comprises 133 sq. miles of lush tropical rain forest, fertile valleys and white sandy beaches. Please take a look at the slide show on the right.
Population: 100,000 approximately.
Climate: Year round average temperature of 28 - 30°C (83 - 90°F). The dry season is between December and May and the rainy season from June to mid December. During the rainy season the showers can be heavy but are normally sporadic.
Currency: Eastern Caribbean Dollar (exchange rate approximately 4 to £1.00 or 2.7 to the U.S. Dollar. The latter can also be used in most shops and restaurants where change will be given in E.C. Dollars.
Airport: Maurice Bishop International. Check in times at least two hours prior to international flights. Departure tax is EC$50.00.
Time: GMT minus 4 hours (Winter) 5 hours (Summer). Grenada is the same as Eastern Daylight time in the USA
Documentation: Full passport for Europeans, U.S., and Canadian citizens are required to produce evidence of citizenship. Return or onward ticket required for all visitors.
Electric Current: 220/240 volts, 50 cycles AC, same as the UK. Most plug sockets are of the standard three pin type.
Communications: All local telephone calls from private telephones are free. Card phones are readily available at the roadside. Calling abroad is expensive. A fax service is available at most hotels and at the Grentel offices in St. George's.
Transport: Local buses travel the main routes regularly. Average cost per journey EC$ 5.00. No bus service on Sundays or at night. Taxis are available average cost 10 - 30 US$. Car hire can be arranged through Sanvics prior to your arrival should you wish. You will need to be over 21 years and bring with you a full driving licence. You will be required to obtain a Grenadian license, cost EC$ 30.00. Car hire is approximately US$ 60.00 per day.
Clothing: Cool summer clothing is perfect. Sportswear for the daytime. At night most hotels and restaurants require smart casual dress for both men and women.
Health Matters: St. George's is the nearest hospital for emergencies. Dentists, Doctors and chemists are readily available. Please ensure adequate travel insurance.
Tax: Expect to pay 8% in most hotels and restaurants and 5% for most other things.
Sports: Apart from those offered by our company, there is also golf, tennis, horse riding, and yachting.
Religious Services: All major denominations are catered for.
Places of interest: Grenada's Capital,St. George's, local handicraft centres, Grand Etang rain forest and lake, and Annadale falls, rum distillery, spice factories, and Bay gardens.
